Florida Bail Bond Agent Requirements

Basic Requirements

Be at least 18 years old
Be a Florida resident
Pass criminal background check
U.S. citizen or legal resident alien
High school diploma or GED
Demonstrate good moral character

Disqualifying Factors

Felony conviction (unless rights restored)

Crime involving moral turpitude​

Revoked professional license

Outstanding warrants

Physical Requirements

Able to work irregular hours​

Comfortable in jail/court environments

Capable of handling stressful situations

Florida requires all bail bond agent applicants to complete a 120-hour pre-licensing course approved by the Florida Department of Financial Services.

The Licensing Process

Complete Pre-Licensing Education

Finish the 120-hour approved course and obtain your certificate of completion.

Pass the State Exam

Schedule and pass the Florida bail bond agent examination. 100 questions, 70% passing score required.

Cost: ~$52 via PSI Services

Obtain Sponsorship

You must be sponsored ('appointed') by a licensed bail bond agency or insurance company to obtain your license.

Submit Your Application

Apply to the Florida Department of Financial Services with your course certificate, exam score, fingerprints, and fees.

Background Check

The state conducts a thorough investigation into your criminal history, credit, and employment.

Receive Your License

Once approved, you'll receive your license. The whole process typically takes 2-4 months.
